Laith Salma's Site

HomeWelcome to Laith Salma's siteFeb 6, 2012
Laith Salma is a student in New York City. He is currently studying all manner of different things, in the hopes that, some day, he will be able to do all the things that he means to do.

And for the record, it seems that it will be an awful lot.

Salma originally grew up in Riyadh, in Saudi Arabia. His mother stayed at home with him, while his father was an oil executive for one of the larger companies operating in that city. What they noticed about him, almost from the start, was that he picked things up quickly. He didn’t speak for a long time, but when he did he used full sentences. There wasn’t any single idea that that he couldn’t seem to get when he was young.

Naturally, his parents were excited to put him in school, and for a while he did excel there. There was every indication that this was going to be a great scholar, and that their son would bring them much honor.

Until he stopped learning.

This was a curious thing. He was a boy, then, and it seemed that if anyone was going to be learning anything for a while, it should be him. He should be the one to learn things. That he stopped outright seemed... unbearable.

They did not accept this. They approached him and his teachers and tried to figure out just what it was that made the difference. What they found was that Laith Salma was simply bored. He’d learned everything there was to learn. Since he didn’t see a reason to apply himself to his lessons - there was nothing left to learn - he was doing poorly as a result.

The solution, then, was rather obvious. Since none of the schools in particular catered to his particular learning style, his parents found a tutor for him. Under this tutelage, Salma’s love of learning blossomed again, and he continued to amaze with his ability to learn.

When the time came that he could learn no more, they were ready for it. The decision was made to send him abroad, to learn more about the world. Hopefully, it would also make a good businessman of him as well. So Salma picked the most interesting city in the world that he could find. The rest is history.

NYC is a major tourist trap. I heard something like ninety percent of the people you see on the street are out-of-towners at any given time. The thing most commonly associated with tourists is that they tend to be clueless of what's going on... more
